God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.

...especially when your manager has a conception of What Should Be that isn't quite like yours, even though you know that it is all about you.

Imagine yourself by a clear mountain stream.
Imagine the crisp air.
Imagine the blue sky.
Imagine the clear water.
Water so clear that you can see the face of the idiot you are holding down in it.

That's a bit extreme, and would undermine the beauty of the setting. I'd settle for the idiot admitting that he/she is an idiot.

Never? Thus the prayer's part about accepting the things I cannot change.

Some things are worth the effort, some things aren't.

True. The problem also is, how do you know what you can't change, and what we can't? I guess thet prayer has an unspoken period of time preceding it during which you bang your head against the obstacle until it gives out or you skull cracks.
