cheesy voice-recognition software
Mar. 13th, 2009 04:39 pmEarlier this week, I stopped by Chili's to order a smoked-turkey sandwich with extra cheese, to go. The clerk correctly read my order back to me. They always put swiss cheese in so imagine my surprise when I got home and found it had extra cheddar cheese.
Yesterday, I went again, and made sure to ask for extra swiss. A different clerk was there and correctly read my order back to me. I went home.
There was no cheese at all this time.

Date: Mar. 14th, 2009 04:53 am (UTC)How are things in my world? Well, I'm all set for the Montreal worldcon. Got my membership, room reservation, plane ticket, car rental, the latter being so that I can visit my mom in Quebec City. It'll have been 5 years since my previous visit, which is an improvement as the previous gap had been 9 years. I'll also get to visit one of the two people who've kept in touch with me for 30 years. I won't be visiting the other person because I'll be seeing her at the con, where she is one of the GoHs.
Besides that, I was in the Bay Area not long ago, for my yearly review. I got a good review from my team lead although the overall rating given by his manager was less than what he had given me. I cornered the manager into explicitly saying what it'd take to get a better rating. "Be creative! Go beyond your basic tasks!" Mind you, all of that that is stuff I did do in 2008, but she finally said that one key ingredient is to come up with project proposals. Which I did even before the review session was done. Yesterday though, it looked like that project would actually be done by someone else, which made me feel like Louise Fletcher in "Brainstorm" after the higherups took away her invention. But my team lead must have really been pushing for me behind the scene because the project IS mine to handle, from beginning to end.
