too early for timbers

We're still months away from September 19's Talk-like-a-Pirate Day. But, should you feel the need to brush up on the language, you might want to know that, at 3amPST this coming Sunday, Turner Classic Movies will be showing 1952's Blackbeard the Pirate, with Robert Newton in the title role. It is my understanding that this movie has cemented our notions of what constitutes colorful piratical utterances. No, that didn't start with DisneyLand's ride of the Pirates of the Caribbean. The latter got its inspiration from Disney's own 1950 version of Treasure Island, which starred, as Long John Silver... Yes, Robert Newton.
