three schools of space opera

Yes, I did notice that those 3 books that I'm looking forward to acquiring are representative of the different schools of space opera published these days. Or are they? Steele's book is not typical of what is currently popular, I think, and is more like the kind of romps that Galaxy used to publish, or so I've been led to believe. On the other hand, Hemry's story is military SF, but without the ideology that usually makes me want to throw the book forcefully against a wall. Finally, Williams's novel, Book Three of the Astropolis story, is nouveau space opera, but of the superduper kind.
