Sometimes what goes around does come around.

When my boss demoted me early in 2008, that was the camel that broke the straw’s back. Mind you, officially it wasn’t a demotion - my title and rank were simply changed. What’s the big deal about that? A bit of background might be needed here.

When my employer allowed me to move from the Bay Area to New Mexico years ago, they didn’t adjust my salary down to reflect the new local cost of living. This meant that, for something like 7 years, I wasn’t awarded any significant raise. Still, that was fair enough. And that was the deal. In early 2007, inflation and other things meant I was now making a bit less than I should, for that title and rank in that part of the country. I was finally given a raise. Then, last year, my boss changed my rank to something that meant I was back to earning a higher salary according to their guidelines. That’s a demotion.

A few weeks ago, the boss announced she was transferring to another group. Backstairs talk revealed to me that, as a result of her overall incompetence if not for her treatment of some of us, she has been demoted.

She's finally gone now. Part of me felt sorry at times, then I'd remind myself of all the times she belittled my accomplishments.

This is poetic justice.
And dare I say it?

It’s poetry in demotion.
