Nov. 29th, 2009
On November 19th (see http://serge-lj.livejournal.com/258269.html), I mentionned that I was considering setting our house up for wireless access to the internet.
Newsflash!

I just did it.
Mind you, I had bought Linksys's Wireless-N Gigabit Router (model WRT310N) a few days ago, but I procrastinated quite a bit. I had been told by my employer's tech-support person that it'd pretty much be a plug&play affair, but I was rather doubtful. It was plug&play if one considers taking 3 hours for the installation to be completed. I myself have a different definition,
Things were complicated a bit by the installation software not recognizing my laptop's built-in modem as the dead piece of junk that it is. I restarted the whole process again, and made sure to specify the slide-in modem, at which point the installer went "Hey! You have an old wired router! Want to replace it?" and then things went down the proper path and, eventually, everything was well with the world.
I guess I should look into adding our printers to the network.
Not today though.
