days with varying levels of patience
Jun. 24th, 2011 09:54 pmToday was a long day. Started at 4am, continued almost nonstop until 5pm, when I had a 2-hour break, after which I oversaw the deployment of changes by our newbies, which, because of their newbieness, took almost 3 hours instead of the usual one hour. You'd think I'd have had little patience by then, but I found some reserve of it in me. The deployment would have gone much faster if I had taken charge. Instead, I told the young woman in charge that I'd stay in the background, but I'd be there if I were needed. How else would they learn? I guess that showing leadership sometimes means not doing anything.
Yesterday, I called to cable company to find out why our DVR wasn't working, and my patience was almost immediately depleted. Having someone start by saying that we don't have a DVR according to their records quickly had me utter a few sarcastic words. It went downhill from there until I asked the offended person to talk to a manager. After a few minutes of my being put on hold, the same person got back to me and said that the problem had been fixed
