Equality Now and Serenity
Jul. 23rd, 2011 06:46 pmThis afternoon we went to the Guild, a local rep theater that showed "Serenity". It was a benefit event for Equality Now, an organization involved in helping women around the world. That's why I bought an extra couple of tickets for their raffle, and had my sight set on a Jayne teddy bear. I lost, but it was for a good cause.
"Valley of the Dragons"
Jul. 23rd, 2011 11:58 pmMy dedication toward the update of "Steampunk and Hollywood" meant watching 1961's "Valley of the Dragons". Freely inspired by Jules Verne's "Hector Servadac", it features chunks of 1881's Algeria being snatched away by a comet along with a Frenchman and an American who get dumped into a landscape made of the previous visits. We find giant lizards, giant spiders, wooly mammoths, an exploding volcano, very ugly cavemen, beautiful prehistoric women, one of whom is introduced by the Frenchman to the custom of kissing. Oui, oui! A very silly affair, and it's time for me to go to bed.
