"Hugo"

"Come and dream with me."

I watched Scorcese's "Hugo" last night and it was a pleasure from beginning to end. Sure, it could have used some tightening in its story, but it's been a long time since I've found myself wanting to buy a movie just to look at it. While it's not SF/fantasy, I expect it'll win the Hugo this year because it *feels* like SF/fantasy.

ready for the Lectureships

I got the minivan back from the dealer. I had taken it in this morning for the almost-overdue oil change, but it turned out that the radiator was leaking. I'm glad that they noticed that today, instead of my finding out on Friday somewhere on the long isolated road between Albuquerque and Portalès. Now that this is taken care of, I can say I'm ready for the trip to the latter town's Jack Williamson Lectureships. I've got maps, I've selected CDs of F/SF movie soundtracks, I've got some books for autographing. All I have left to do is to prepare my carryon, and to fill up my thermos with coffee.
