Last night was the premiere of Season Two for "Alphas". It was OK and I'll keep watching, but it raised questions about the superidiots who decided it was a superidea to jail superpowered people in a superprison with less supersecurity than a superdaycare center.

We were going to bed early last night, but Turner Classic Movies was showing 1951's "Captain Horatio Hornblower" and it was 11:00pm by the time we did turn in. Great movie. Great cast, with Gregory Peck as Hornblower, and is that Christopher Lee in a bit part? It's not the first time we've watched it, but it's the first time we've seen it on the HD-TV. That's when we noticed how dirty Hornblower's outfit was, with a definitely paler area under the lapel. I can't tell for sure, but this movie seems to have gone for greater realism than usually is the case for such films. Hornblower's coat had frayed lapels, the epaulettes were missing bits of fringe, and the sleeves were ripped near the armpit. Of course, some concessions were made, with Virginia Mayo looking glamorous most of the time, and Hornblower's cabin ceiling was higher than usual, probably because tall Peck otherwise would have had to go thru those scenes walking like Quasimodo for fear of splitting his skull open against a beam. But... Again, a great film with great messy naval battles...
