I just came back from a trip to Barnes & Noble, where I treated myself by buying Jack Campbell's "Tarnished Knight", and Catherynne Valente's "The Girl Who Fell Beneath Fairyland". Yes, I could have gotten the latter for free thru my wife's editor, who works at Tor, where the book was published. And the former's author had given me its ARC at the worldcon. But. I believe we should pay authors if we want them to keep writing, and us to keep reading.
