The weekend saw the completion of my big work project of the year. It involved the mandatory once-a-year's switching of our processing from our main unix server and its database to the backup. Once that was done, we ran our full daily cycle, after which our users validated the output, and then we switched back to the main server. That has been my responsibility since 2007, when I managed the backup's setup. This year I once again prepared the timeline of the exercise, arranged for the resources in other departments and within our team. Things went smoothly overall, with a couple of technical hiccups, but those were resolved quickly, and finding those potential issues are why we do this once a year. The whole thing started on Friday at 7am with some prep work and ended on Saturday at 11pm. I slept about 4 hours out of the whole affair's 40 hours, and not all of it in one session, but I did a bangup job, if I may humbly say so.

You know that SF has become respectable when my Political Party sends an email the title of which refers to the Tea Party as living in a parallel universe.

I used to think that 1959's "North by Northwest" had the most actors who went on to become famous in spy TV series, with Fletcher Pratt's later to become Maxwell Smart's Chief, Leo G. Carroll as UNCLE's Mr.Waverly, and Martin Landau as the IMF's Rollin Hand. But 1957's "Hell Drivers" featured Patrick McGoohan as John Drake and Number Six, David McCullum as UNCLE's Ilya Kuryakin, and Sean Connery as you-know-who.
