sergebroom: (Beast at the Gate)
I woke up at 2:15am, but still hadn't gone back to sleep by 3am, so I got up and spent the next hour (until it was time to go to the gym) completing my project of clearing up my home office's comic-book shelves, boxing away those comics I want to keep, putting aside some things that might be of interest for the SF club's auction later this year. The shelves now contain only those very few comics I still follow, and the rest of the now abundantly empty shelves will soon hold the many books that I still haven't read, and which currently add up to teetering stacks.

Addendum... This cleanup allowed me to discover a photo of Hugh Jackman from 2000's "X-men", which should greatly please my wife.

2nd addendum... This cleanup led to a less pleasant discovery. It'd appear that I have lost the first issue of the first story of "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen".

I see that Marvel is reprinting "Miracle Man", starting with Alan Moore's tales, then presumably with Neil Gaiman's. I understand that they'll then come up with new stories. I'm not sure how I feel about that. When I discovered "MM" in the early 1980s, it was a breath of fresh if harsh air in a ho-hum field. Ultimately though, it was a storytelling dead end, and Moore himself, when he came back to comics, took an approach not unlike Kurt Busiek's - ignore the mercilessly realistic approach and instead embrace the silliness while twisting it around. I guess I'll keep an eye on "Miracle Man", and see how they'll handle things in a field that, to me anyway, is mostly ho-hum again.
