A few days ago, over at Rixo, Susan de Guardiola posted about the play Mary Stuart, in which the Queen of Scots meets the Queen of England, an encounter that never happened in real life. That got me thinking about what other fictional meetings of historical figures are out there. Here's one I had heard of but never seen until now...

The other one I mentioned in my post was Tim Findley's play Elizabeth Rex positing a meeting between Elizabeth I and an actor in Shakespeare's troupe who specialized in playing women's roles.

Have you ever seen 1991's The Best of Friends (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0109245/)? It's about 25-year friendship thru letters shared by Benedictine nun Laurentia McLachlan (Wendy Hiller), museum director Sydney Cockerell (John Gielgud), and George Bernard Shaw (Patrick McGoohan). They apparently never met in the flesh, but here they speak to each other as if they were in the same physical space, their conversations based on their correspondance.

Well, it was a videotaped film of what may have been a play. It felt like a play anyway, and your involvement with plays being quite extensive, there was a strong possibility that you might have known of it. That being said, and your answer to my earlier question being no, I'd recommend checking it out if it's available on NetFlix or from other sources of DVDs.
