intense dislike

Yesterday, while doing the grocery, I overheard one woman in her seventies say the following to another:

"I hate going to WalMart. I'd rather have a root canal."

Why, I wonder, does she go?

I got the impression that she doesn't go anymore, or that she'd go only as a very last resort in spite of her comment about painful dental work.

"Open wide! Oh, sorry, you want the Linens aisle?"

Yeah, she'll have quite a dilemma when WalMart opens a dentistry dept that's so cheap that all regular dentists will shut down. (Am I being silly? In 1969, the news that, 4 deacdes later, Disney would remake Yellow Submarine would have been greeted with scorn and ridicule.)

Browse [livejournal.com profile] abpeed for tales from the register line of Wal-Mart, told by a very smart, very acerbic employee.
