Last week, I finally got my employer's replacement for my busted 4-year-old cell phone - a Blackberry Bold. To say that it's a great improvement is an understatement. Yes, it makes me even more connected to my job, but I was always expected to be very connected so now at least I have the tools for it. Someone in Tech-Support had to do the initial setup for me, but I quickly picked up on how to use the various features. I filmed a short movie, and took a photo of myself and easily emailed it to my personal email address. Have no fear, I won't show it to you. That being said, it's a neat piece of SF that I now hold in my hand.

As a longtime slave to my Blackberry Curve, I can promise you that the intrusion on your life will only get worse. The boundaries between worktime and private time will completely erode. And yet, you will still love and adore the monstrous little device. You will be anxious when it is not right on your hip. It is really quite a paradox.

What may save me from this life of slavery you warn against is that, while my Blackberry has some web-surfing capabilities, they are extremely awkward. I guess I can grateful that my owner... I mean... my employer wouldn't shell out the money for something like an iPhone.

I second this. I'm having to force myself not to answer work-related emails on my Curve while I'm convalescing.

Which version of the Bold do you have? 9000? 9700? 9650? I ask because I'm planning to upgrade to a Bold when I qualify for a cheap ugrade under my provider (Verizon's) new-every-two plan.

That sounds like an endorsement to me.

It is. It's not as fancy as an iPhone, I'm sure, but I do like it.

I had to reboot it a couple of days ago when its trackpad became non-operational, by popping its battery out then putting it back in.

Rebooting a phone...
How SFnal is that?
