It's been said that books are a writer's children. After talking with a fantasy author this weekend, I've concluded that the metaphor isn't quite right. Yes, a book takes time to put together - just like a child. Yes, the pleasure of reading a book happens much more quickly - just like sex. But the order of things is reversed. Unless one suffers from premature elocution.
