Yesterday, I caught a song by Petula Clark on an oldies (*) radio station and it made me feel good. Then again, hearing her voice always does that to me. Here is an animation film by Mike Jittlov on YouTube with an interesting rendition of that song. The quality of the picture could have been better, but it was not an obstacle to me as I had seen the original at worldcons in the early 1980s...

Enjoy.

----------

(*) Meaning a station that plays songs that used to be originals when I was young, a sure sign that I am getting older, besides the fact that I know who Petula Clark is.

The thought that the voices of our youth are now 'oldies' is a bit disconcerting.

Petula Clark's voice, though, is lovely.

Her voice indeed is a pleasure. And I now find myself thinking I should go buy the DVDs of Finian's Rainbow and of the 1960s version of Goodbye Mr. Chips... Speaking of those movies, did you know that she dubbed her own voice in the French translations, and that she sang the French versions of her own songs?

No, I didn't.

Off on your travels yet? I've just got back from mine.

Still a few hours left before I fly away. As for Petula, if you go to YouTube and type in her name, I think you'll find some films of her singing in French. She had an accent, but not overly strong, and it was charming.

Thanks. Enjoy your trip! I'm listening to the Proms on BBC Radio 3.

Shhh! Don't admit that, silly! Only we oldsters are allowed to go about muttering "Kids these days." If you do it you're aligning yourself with us!

Me too!

I know who she is.

Music from the 70s and 80s is on the oldies stations...

It's nice to know that some of today's kids know what came before them. (Says the old curmudgeon.)
