it DOES run in the family

I long ago came to the conclusion that, should Sue ever decide she wants to quit her career as a writer, she could find a new job as a beta tester for softwares. She has oft had weird problems happen because she accidentally did things with softwares that no normal human would have thought of doing.

This is my way of saying that her parents flew in from the Bay Area last Thursday. When her dad, a Mac user, was done going around the internet, he somehow managed to delete from Sue's Windows-running laptop the icon for her WordPerfect software and to rename her Internet Explorer's icon to the executable instruction that the icon runs. All this without trying.

Anyway. Our guests being around is why I haven't posted much on my blog. True, I also didn't have much to say, but it's not like that usually stops me from saying it. Office-related work kept me quite busy for many hours during the day and it wouldn't have been right to spend more time than necessary at the computer. Hiding in my home office longer than necessary would have been the mark of a bad host. Among other things, we drove to Taos, a mere 134 miles north of here (really 150 miles, due to my wife the navigator making me take a wrong turn). My in-laws were supposed to fly back yesterday morning, but Sue's dad wasn't feeling well and so their departure was rescheduled to tomorrow. That's why, last night, we all watched our newly acquired DVD of 1965's Frankenstein Meets the Space Monster. Sue's mom really got into the spirit of things, but her dad didn't seem to appreciate this work of cinema, in spite of lines like "Looks worse than it is." After that, we started watching William Wyler's The Best Years of Our Lives, a movie of a definitely higher caliber.

In spite of all this, I did manage to have an interesting conversation with a fellow blogger about the various reasons why we do it.

Tomorrow... Some of those people we deal with solely on the internet might actually be dogs.
