I wonder why I've been called a pillar of the local SF fandom. It's not as if I've organized any con, or other such events, except to have some people to our house a couple of times.

Because you're a solid support. You always show up, you always do unglamorous (edit: and necssary) things, you read a lot and talk about what you've read. You built the Hugo display stand, fer cryin' out loud. Of *course* you're a pillar of the community.
