Sue's surgery ended much earlier than expected this morning, in fact just as one of our staff meetings was beginning, so I had to make myself scarce. Darn. I hopped into the minivan and rushed to the hospital. One hour later, we were both out of the recovery room, and managed to get Sue into the minivan without her uttering a single shriek of pain. She winced and moaned and groaned a few times, but that's pretty good considering what she had gone thru. I put her to bed and made her as comfortable as possible. At first, she needed help every time she needed to get off the bed, but more than once I caught slowly going around on crutches. The sight kind of reminded me like Long John Silver, but with both legs. I expect she'll recover quickly.

On the sad-news front… My 5-yar-old nephew isn't as interested in Superman as he used to. He has moved on to, alas, the Power Rangers.

best wishes for the healing

Margene had the small, center-knee implant put in just before Christmas because she trashed her medial menicsus in a stairs-related fall and the subsequent arthroscopic surgery made all the injured cartilege pissed off and it went, "F-off I'm getting outta here."

She was back going up and down stairs in our 1912 house within a week or two of the procedure, she was in no pain compared to before and best yet, she can still teach Irish Dance because she can still rotate her leg in the vertical plane.

I hope she recovers swiftly and completely. Surgery is never fun.

I'm glad for Margene. Right now, it looks like last night's post may have been a bit optimistic. The pain got noticeably worse after that. It looks like the night's sleep may have helped. Unfortunately, she woke up at one point in the middle of the night, and, still drowsy, jerked her leg a bit. That's the spot that's aching right now. We hope she didn't bust a stitch, or worse. We'll call her doc as soon as they open.

Meanwhile, I found that I can sleep the whole night in a beach-style folding chair. With all the pillows surrounding Sue, and dogs who are used to sleeping with us, there was no room for me. I could have slept on the living-room's couch, but I wanted to be right where any sound would jerk me awake.

Thanks, I'll let her know. As for her recovery, see my response to dragonet2 in this thread.

Oh dear. I hope it gets better soon.

(On a related note: I've just made an appointment to have oral surgery. Ouch.)

Update? Hope she heals fast and well. Ask the doc about PT, she'll want to make sure she gets everything fully functional again.

And my sympathies on the nephew front. But don't worry, he'll grow out of the Power Rangers. You never grow out of Superman.

After increased pain last night, things seem to be improving. She might even be able to get back to her computer tomorrow. She's a bit antsy about that, what with her tight deadlines. I'm keeping an eye on her though, at leats until she begins physical therapy next week.

As for my nephew... Maybe the change is that he is realizing that he could never be Superman while one could become a Power Ranger, with the proper magic word. I'll do what I can to make sure he doesn't forget the Last Son of Krypton. I know I've never outgrown him.

Hope it's going well

Thanks. She still needs me once in a while, but overall she can do things on her own, provided she uses her crutches. The improved state of affairs fills her with joy, to say the least. Of course, I keep an eye onher, in case she pushes herself a bit too much.
