"...Howard Hawks thought Leigh Brackett was a good writer because according to him she wrote 'like a man'..."

I wonder if he knew she wasn't one when he first hired her. That being said, I was glad to see her mentioned in Lightspeed's "Women Destroy Science Fiction".
