I don't know which is worse, that office treats me like I am mediocre, or the encroaching feeling that maybe they are right and I *am* mediocre.

Ugh, I hate both too. ISTM that they take you for granted, though, rather than thinking you're mediocre. You do put out fires on a regular basis, and you said they said nice things in that team-building whatever.

IRL (including the internet), of course, you're not mediocre at all.
