Did you know that The Bulletin of the SFWA is available in bookstores? If not, you might want to grab a copy, especially because of the Dialogs between Barry Malzberg and Mike Resnick, and because of Robert Metzger's science-speculation column. In the Fall 2007 issue, Metzger talks about positronium, a short-lived atom created by spitting positrons at a silicate sponge. If things go well, two atoms get stuck with each other, thus creating a positronium molecule. If things go really well, you get lots of those molecules and if you cool them down to really low temperatures, they become a Bose Einstein condensate. Then, when this mega-molecule goes poof, you get a gamma-ray laser. You don't want to get in the way of one of those.
Speaking of nasty things, there are days when I can't stand the taste of Folger's Instant Coffee. Luckily for my palate, Sue has found a replacement: toss 4 or 5 or 6 teaspoons of cocoa in your mug, then one or 2 or 3 teaspoons of espresso powder; add hot water. Climb up the wall.
