This morning was a reminder of why I enjoy using public transportation in these parts.

First, there was the teenager who blew his nose with his bare fingers then wiped them on his pants. Luckily he did this after the girls he'd been trying to chat up had gotten off.

Later, a slovenly-looking gent got on board, sat down, and proceeded to sneeze 4 or 5 times without trying to cover things up with his hand. Luckily for Humankind, that sector of the bus was empty by then. His giggling to himself added a nice touch.

That reminds me of the part in High Anxiety where Howard Morris's character gets emotional about how successful Mel Brooks's character has become, and he blows his nose into his hands, looks at them, and says "Oops. I blew too fast." One of many parts of that movie that still cracks me up just to think about, despite my having seen it eight hundred trillion times (at least).

That's Mel for you.

Speaking of how epidemics start... Did you ever notice that The Andromeda Strain began in New Mexico? Besides that, Them! had giant ants infesting the state's desert before they decided to fly to Los Angeles.

All you need is a fellow passenger named Gloria Munday.

Margaret Thatcher on a bus? I shudder to think.

I wonder if she had anything to do with Solomon Grundy?

Phew. I was beginning to think that, for all your friendly comments here and there, you were really harboring rage and loathing toward me. Glad to find out this isn't the case.

I stepped onto a PAT bus about a year ago and looked down to see a scrap of bloody tissue paper scudding its way across the aisle in the breeze from the side door. Odd. I thought, and then continued toward the back of the bus, where the seats are empty and the air is clean.
Generally. Not always.
Because when I got back there, there was half a human tooth--split lengthwise--sitting on the seat waiting for me.
Very tasty.

Is this the part where I paraphrase Jack Nicholson and say that you can't handle the tooth?
