Agatha

When I came home tonight, Sue had a surprise for me. Actually, she said she had forgotten (suuuure) to call to let me know that, when she had her hair cut this morning, a 4-month-old kitten had wandered into her hairdresser's place and... and you can guess the rest.

Somehow she thought that her suggestion of calling her Agatha would mollify me.

Unfortunately, Sue was right. Still, as you can see above, Agatha is quite a feral creature. Somehow we will manage to tame her.

Yeah sure.

I can see how vicious she is... but then we adopted Siegfried and Yum from a photo on the Internets. (Angie was really a pathetic case because I don't think her owner really liked her, and I found out that the daughter I adopted her from --a co-worker--would have just let Angelina outside to fend for herself if she hadn't fit in...)

the best thing about adopting her and tolerating her behaviour of skittishness and scaredy-cat, is that Angelina will now come up in the night and sleep with us, cuddling in. I think that's just extra special and I approve and encourage it...

Y'all got a cutie there.

Thanks. Right now, she's sleeping in a cat carrier next to our bed. She'll eventually be allowed to sleep on the bed with the rest of the family. We already have bad cat Jefferson so our three dogs aren't likely to have a problem with Agatha. She on the other hand growls when they come too close. She'll get over it.

Awww, what a sweetie! Found cats that aren't feral are often very loving as they grow up -- they had a taste of the Wild, and they know which side their bread is buttered on.

I don't know how long Agatha was out in th Wild. She is quite thin. Not skeletal, but definitely thin. Also, while she needs a bath, she's not riddled with vermin - none obvious anyway. As for that bath, I'll leve that to the experts today.

Oh, she looks rather satisfied. How exciting for all of you.

Congratulations!

Thanks. I don't think our (fixed) male cat Jefferson is very happy with the situation, but I'm sure things will be fine when they establish that THIS corner is your territory and THAT corner is miiiiiiiiine!

Better watch that hand--you could draw back a nub there if she's of a mind to stand up for herself.

She has a sort of calico-collided-with-Siamese look to her.

Agatha's been quite loveydovey with Sue and me. Hopefully that will persist even when she realizes that she doesn't have to be loveydovey and that we won't cast her out.

Awww. (Why does this word get flagged by the spellcheck?)
Btw, could you link me to some good sites for Office for Mac tutorials and touchtyping? I'm looking for a temp job and I've been told it's a good idea to have 50 wds/min. speed and be familiar with Office.

That probably got flagged because of the same consonant being repeated, three in a row. That being said, thanks.

As for Mac tutorials... I wish I could help, but I don't work with that machine. Your best bet would be to post something about it on Making Light.

How fast is your typing speed right now?

That's what mine was when I first temped back in the Old Stone Age (the 1980s). It's got to be a lot better if you want a secretarial temp job. Also, most offices have never *heard* of the Mac. You should be able find your way around Windows.

Most temp jobs these days want you to know Excel or Access, or, at a minimum to do data entry.

Thanks. She spent most of yesterday confined to the bedroom, with the door closed, and didn't make a fuss. Today, Sue put a tall babygate across the bedroom door so that she could see everybody else. Sue called me not long ago. Agatha jumped over that babygate, and has been exploring th whole house and, when the dogs get too close, she makes it clear that they are not to come any closer.

Aw! She looks cute. Nice name for a cat. Very old-fashioned.

And it's also the name of the Girl Genius, Agatha Heterodyne.

So you're expecting her to be a cat genius?

Ask any cat, they're all geniuses (geniuii?).

Of course, I could point to my sweet little Orphy as an example of cute, daring, adventurous, brave, and not especially clever.

All cats will tell you that. On the other hand, cats hide their cleverness until it is needed.

"And you're not keeping that screwdriver."

"Yes, right 'meow', young lady!"

We have lots of conversations like that at my house.

Actual husband quote:

Your husband has an oscilliscope? I don't know what that is, but it sounds awesome.

It's an instrument used on equipment with electrical circuits. Usually he's trying to track down shorts or failed components. I think this is the one he has.

Is Orphy's outlook on life positive?

She usually seems neutral, but unlike the other cat, she doesn't do the circuit. I guess you could call her an ohm body.
