This is not fair.

Todayis the first true day off work I've had in a long time and it's now ruined. Ruined!

Okay, maybe I'm exagerating. Still, imagine my disappointment> After I came back from my usual early-hour workout at the gym, I turned the TV on to Turner Classic Movies and found that 1955's Jupiter's Darling was on. Unfortunately, it was the very end of the movie. That means I never got to see Esther swim. At least I did catch her riding away from Rome on an elephant while Howard Keel as Hannibal did his singing thing.

Perhaps you can tell me what was that film the other night that starred John Wayne as a ship's captain in the East Indies? Gail and I caught a bit of it -- Wayne in a superhuman dive and fight with a giant octopus among other things.

Who won, the Duke or the cephalopod?

It sounds familiar, and might be one of his earliest. Do you remember what night it was on TCM?

The Duke, of course.

I think it was Friday night. It was pretty early, since Wayne looked pretty young and it was in monochrome.

According to my TCM Guide, that'd be 1949's Wake of the Red Witch:

A captain fights a Dutch shipping magnate for a treasure and the heart of a beautiful woman.
