(My many thanks to Mary Dell for that little PhotoShop surprise!)

My office laptop croaked yesterday. Most fortuitously, at the end of the day on Friday I had received the desktop that my manager had insisted I must have as a backup. Tech-support should have that new machine up and running later today. Until then, I shall be quite absent from the blogosphere. (I'm writing this on Sue's home computer.) By the way, you may have noticed that I said the backup is a desktop. How then shall I be able to work from home, should an emergency arise? That is a very good question, one apparently less worthy of consideration than the cost of a desktop being less than a laptop's.

Penelope Wise, please meet Ezra Pound Foolish.

"You made it better." It's a reference to T.S.Eliot's dedication of *The Waste Land* "To Ezra Pound -- il miglior fabbro (he made it better)"

Love the pic. Excellent work, [livejournal.com profile] marydell.

Huh. I didn't even know you had the option of not working from home. i was under the impression the office was in SF...(or maybe just one of them?)

The team I'm with inded is based in San Francisco. I'm the group's only programmer who telecommutes, from one of my employer's New Mexico offices. There are days (and nights) when I have to work from home, but my laptop's failure means that's not an option right now. Once its hard-drive is replaced though, I will have a desktop at the office, and a laptop at home, instead of just a laptop that I take with me every morning and evening.

Anyway, my desktop is now up and running. The very good news is that I didn't lose any of my web browser's links, or any of my emails. Some software need to be reloaded, but almost nothing is missing.

Huzzah!

What do you mean you don't currently have a portable computer.

Look--it's perfectly portable:

Alas, I think my employer would frown upon my working at the unsecure environment of a Starbuck's. Besides, I might wind up very twitchy at the end of the day.

With Starbuck's coffee? Heh, just pretend it's something from Agatha's coffee machine...wait...

Ah, if only I could have access to Agatha's Nectar... Then again, it's probably just as well that I can't otherwise I'd lose all interest in work, my senses euphorically caffeinated.
