I'm in the San Francisco Bay Area and having a good time, but I can't pass the chance to point out that Susan de Guardiola's latest column has, near the end of it, a link to a photo of Susan in drag. Oh, and she also reviews Naomi Novik's Victory of Eagles.

"Column"???

How intimidating. I don't feel like I'm writing columns. I'm just going ON and ON and ON about things I feel strongly about. Just like in person, but with fewer icky verbal tics.

I just added a new link at the bottom of the VoE post to the fabulous party writeup at FantasyBookSpot.com. Since I'm not terribly photogenic I'm glad they mostly put up pix of other people in my extremely stylish krewe. I'm just barely visible in the back in the dance shot.

Icky verbal tics? I don't remember your having verbal tics, icky or not, when we met in 2006.

I say "um" and "uh" all the time and have a nasty Valley-Girl habit of adding "like", like, everywhere. I try to remove these things when I speak formally, but it's hard to remember in casual conversation. Very embarrassing when I have friends who are extremely well-spoken.
