On July 16, I posted an item about Susan de Guardiola's attendance of a big literary event for the release of Naomi Novik's A Victory of Eagles. Here is the YouTube film of the dance that Susan organized at the author's request. Susan is the man with glasses. Feel free to insert references to Clark Kent and Lois Lane.

I don't know, I'm thinking something more along the lines of Miss Tree/Mister E. But that could be the late hour influencing me. :)

You know what? I am embarassed to say that, while I had heard of that comic-book, I had never actually come across it. I like the Wikipedia's choice of a cover, showing Miss Tree firing a big gun at someone and exclaiming "Die! Die! Die!"

What amazes me is that the eight of us had never had one single rehearsal with all of us present, and two of us (me and my partner) had never actually danced the figure under anything but workshop conditions. I call it all the time, of course, but it's fun to get to actually dance it for once!

There's more information than you ever wanted to know about one of the figures in this quadrille here (http://www.kickery.com/2008/01/star-light-star.html), where I talk about how I actually figured out how to do it.

No group rehearsal at all? What the film shows is the first time you had done this together? Goodness. Even if you had one quick run-thru before the official performance, I bet you had what in French is called le trac, which sort of translates as stage fright.
