Well, in spite of a nasty flu that seriously harmed my already pitiful sleeping habits, I managed to a successful end that big business-continuation project that I had been charged with planning for our team for the last few months. An ending with flying colors. And ahead of schedule. Let's see how much praise I get from the higherups. If I don't get any, well, it looks like I accrued enough overtime these last few days to pay for that portable DVD player I've had my sights on for some time.

Portable DVD players are great. I've got a Panasonic that I bought back before the prices dropped so far. Pricey, but worth every penny.

Feel better soon.

The player I'm looking into is Philips's DCP951. It's got a 9-inch screen, and plays all kinds of formats. It apparently can also play DVDs from other regions. And it costs a mere $160. One neat thing about those players is how crisp the image is, especially when you're used to non-digital TVs. Also, it'd allow me to watch certain movies (like the Planet of the Apes series) without my wife running out of the room. When you think about it, it is a very depressing series, with every film ending with a downer.

Thanks for the wishes. I still have a bit of sniffles, and I cough once in a while, but I'm pretty much over it. Meanwhile, my wife is still recovering even though it brought her down before it did me. Something seems to have originated at the worldcon: a friend that my wife spent time with got it bad too, along with someone we had dinner with. And Susan de Guardiola is still coughing.

9-inch screen? Niiice. Mine's a 7-inch (which was big at the time...). Great for travel; I can't read on airplanes without getting a headache, but I can watch DVDs!

I avoided the con crud for once, but now I seem to be coming down with my usual late-summer cough/sinus infection. Joy.

My best wishes for a prompt recovery. By the way, my wife felt quite dizzy on Saturday, possibly from the infection she got on top of the flu, and the advice nurse suggested that she come to Urgent Care so we did. When it was all over, I noticed that Sue's physician was named Deprest. I hope he doesn't a psychotherapist relative. Anyway, that can't beat the time she was taken care of by Doctor Faust.
