I am an ethical person, according to that online training I just completed at my employer's request. The only question I had to take twice was whether or not I can accept a cookie tin and cash from our customers.

Cash? Not so much... Cookies? As long as you're under $100, isn't it? Or was that "under $100 unless it's golf"?

The whole value of a gift to/from a customer cannot exceed something like $200. In other words, they can give me $200 worth of cookies, but not $200 to buy ny own cookies. Which is a shame because they'd probably wind up getting m cookies I don't like, probably something with chocolate chips in it.

As for golf trips... It's even more restricted, which is just as well because the last time I went to the mini-putt was about 35 years ago.

Heh. Sounds familiar. It took me ages to persuade one of our saleskritters that I -really- didn't want [basketball|baseball|football|sports] tickets, and that the correct way to improve goodwill involved tickets to something of interest to me...

His manager, however, was rather fascinated by the idea that there was this new class of purchaser [dot-com] that would spend lots of money, but didn't like sports...

When my wife was recently visiting her family in California, she called and asked what I'd like from them. I said: a Starbuck's gift card. I drink too much coffee, but it helps keep me awake on those long days at the office.

You are so the sort of person who would not steal a loaf of bread when he was hungry.

Thanks. If I did, it'd most likely be to give it to somebody else who might need it more.

Would that mollify Javert?

I expect not. With Javert, the moment you've committed a crime, any crime, even stealing a piece of bread, you've crust the line.

..that's good to know. Now I can bring my cookies over.

You mean that you originally were planning not to bring them to the Montréal worldcon because you were concerned I might steal them from you? Humph.

Mais non! I wouldn't have brought them because you could have gotten in trouble with your employer. This way I can rest assured that you will enjoy your cookies without fear. Oatmeal raisin ok?

Plain oatmeal cookies would be fine. Slightly carbonized, even better. (Whenever my wife makes oatmeal cookies and lets them bake too long, they don't go to waste, although they may go to my waist.)
