My wife has posted an entry on her blog where she talks about her literary projects, present and future. What she doesn't talk about is one non-literary project that she'll be involved in right after the Election, namely the replacement of one knee. Bionic, with a death-ray projector in the kneecap. All right, I made that last part up. But she IS writing, and she IS getting a new knee.

Death-ray projector? Cool.

And it's bionic. Unfortunately, she's getting just one of those, which might make it difficult to jump tall buildings in a single bound.

Just buildings of medium height.

Didn't Steve Austin have one bionic leg and one flesh one? And yet he was able to develop a workable running gait, except for the slow-mo and funny noises.

Srsly tho, new knees are the best. My MIL got one earlier this year and she likes it so much she's getting the other one done in a month or two. Rehabbing is a bitch but it's worth it in the end.

If I remember correctly, both legs were bionic, but one of his arm was part of the original package.

As for the whole procedure, yes, I've heard that it's not that big of a deal. I was recently talking to a local fan and found that she had it done only 3 weeks before. Sure she had a cane, but she could walk. As for rehab, I'll be very stern about that. But nice too - I'll drive Sue to whatever daily (?) rehab she can't do at home.

Meanwhile, my neighbor, who's only 5 years older than me but who looks 10 years older, went thru that this summer, and there were lots of complications which were apparently caused by vascular deficiencies from all those years of heavy smoking.

Yah, my MIL had complications from diabetes...but it still worked out well.

I'm sure it will work out for Sue too. Still, it's not going to be fun at first, with her body saying ouchouchouchwhatdidyoudotome. Luckily my MiL will be flying in and staying with us for the first week.
