I'd like to recommend to you Joseph Sargent's 2004 movie "Something The Lord Made", which stars Mos Def and Alan Rickman.

Alfred Blalock (1899-1964), a cardiologist (therefore, self-confident to the point of arrogance), leaves Vanderbilt for Johns Hopkins taking with him his lab technician, Vivien Thomas (1910-1985). Thomas, an African-American without a college degree, is a gifted mechanic and tool-maker with hands splendidly adept at surgery. In 1941, Blalock and Thomas take on the challenge of blue babies and invent bypass surgery. After trials on dogs, their first patient is baby Eileen, sure to die without the surgery.

Life has is filled with weird coincidences. A couple of weeks ago Susan de Guardiola mentionned the movie on her blog here. After following her link to the 1980s article about those two amazing men, I immediately mentionned this to my wife, also named Susan, who said that not only did she know about this, but she had just added the movie to our NetFlix queue.

Again, I recommend it.
Highly.

I have added it to my queue.

Mind you, the queue was already 1809 DVDs long, so it may be a while before I get to watch it...

Let's see. Assuming one movie per day, that's almost 6 years from now. Hopefully something will happen so that you get to enjoy it sooner than that.

It's actually worse than that: the rate at which I'm currently working through my queue is closer to one movie per month than one per day.

I've moved 'Something the Lord Made' up to #28 (immediately after 'Robin of Sherwood').

You chose wisely. Let me know what you think of both. About Robin, my favorite episodes were in the 2nd season, which began with The Swords of Wayland.

Maybe all of us Susans are actually a hivemind!

So I gather you've now seen the movie?

p.s. your Captcha is giving me "Glentworth Wight" which sounds like a fabulous name for a villain!

Yes, I have indeed seen the movie and very much enjoyed it.

(By the way, I got a kick out of seeing the name of the director. Joseph Sargent also did the late 1960's Colossus: The Forbin Project, an intelligent story about what happens when we turn over the defense of the country to an artifical intelligence.)

So, I'm Glentworth Wight? I'll have to take a closer look at CAPTCHA's site.
