"something the Lord made"
Nov. 26th, 2008 07:23 amI'd like to recommend to you Joseph Sargent's 2004 movie "Something The Lord Made", which stars Mos Def and Alan Rickman.
Life has is filled with weird coincidences. A couple of weeks ago Susan de Guardiola mentionned the movie on her blog here. After following her link to the 1980s article about those two amazing men, I immediately mentionned this to my wife, also named Susan, who said that not only did she know about this, but she had just added the movie to our NetFlix queue.
Again, I recommend it.
Highly.
Alfred Blalock (1899-1964), a cardiologist (therefore, self-confident to the point of arrogance), leaves Vanderbilt for Johns Hopkins taking with him his lab technician, Vivien Thomas (1910-1985). Thomas, an African-American without a college degree, is a gifted mechanic and tool-maker with hands splendidly adept at surgery. In 1941, Blalock and Thomas take on the challenge of blue babies and invent bypass surgery. After trials on dogs, their first patient is baby Eileen, sure to die without the surgery.

Date: Nov. 27th, 2008 05:16 am (UTC)Let's see. Assuming one movie per day, that's almost 6 years from now. Hopefully something will happen so that you get to enjoy it sooner than that.

p.s. your Captcha is giving me "Glentworth Wight" which sounds like a fabulous name for a villain!

So, I'm Glentworth Wight? I'll have to take a closer look at CAPTCHA's site.
