Goodness, has it been that long since my last post? It's not that lots of things happened. Office life (if one wants to call it that) kept me very busy for the whole month of May. At least, I personally think that it fits the definition of 'busy' when you spend 87 hours in one week working on a big project, what with its deadline looming closer and closer. But you don't really want to hear me gripe that, while pretty much everybody has shown appreciation for my work, not a peep has issued forth from the lips of my manager. And you don't want to hear me say that some suggestions of mine on the project's next phase were promptly rejected by said manager, who accepted them when presented differently by someone else, a situation that occurs so frequently that I am reminded of Groucho Marx in Horse Feathers. Except that Groucho was funny.

What else did happen then?

I finally got most of my yardwork done. And I was able to resume my gym workout today although that wasn't as hard as I had feared it'd be, but then again I had been getting a bit of exercise digging holes and wheelbarrowing lots of dirt up-hill. And I saw X-men: The Last Stand, which unfortunately was too short by 30 minutes to contain all the stuff that was happening in it, but it had some absolutely beautiful moments, like when one young mutant, given the possibility of having his wings removed, decides instead upon the freedom of the skies.

I have new glasses. So? Well, it had been three years since my last exam and my sight seemed to be getting a bit more blurry. The optometrist said that, yes, my sight had changed but not that much. That is very reassuring to hear when you're over 50 and when your sight is your most important sense and you worry that, in 30 years, you'll be blind as a bat. I got new glasses anyway, my first pair ever to use a wire instead of a complete frame. And it made my sight worse. So we went thru the whole exam again. The doc then had me put on my new glasses and held some extra lenses in front and everything else was much sharper. How much stronger were those lenses? On a scale of one to ten, they added one quarter of one. I apparently am one of those myopic people who can sense very fine differences. They redid my lenses and and everything is now A-okay.

Last item but not least...

Sue's middle sister and her hubby had been working with an adoption agency since they couldn't have kids of their own and they'd been on pins and needles for months, until 2 weeks ago. The kid is supposed to be born in mid-August and it's... Yesssss!!!... a girl. The birth mother is 6'1", which is going to be interesting if that characteristic is passed on to her daughter. Except for your truly, the family isn't exactly suffering from an excess of verticality.

That kid is going to get a lot of love.
