We got some bad news from Sue's middle sister, Lauran. She and Jeff, her husband, had desperately wanted a child and, after many attempts, realized they'd have to go the adoption route. After a very long time where they were on pins and needles, they heard from the adoption agency earlier this year that there was this single mother who was pregnant with her second child and who had decided that she couldn't provide for two children. She liked what she had read about Lauran and Jeff so she chose them to be the parents of her daughter, to be born in mid-August. Things were looking good, especially after their meeting, even though there is a 24-hour period after the birth during which the mother can decide to keep the child. Well, she has already made the decision and she'll keep the baby. Lauran found out after the mother stopped returning their calls. The woman's lawyer (who had been provided by Lauran and Jeff) told her.
I was looking forward to the end of August, and to holding little Melody in my arms.
