"all the lonely people"
Jun. 3rd, 2007 02:44 pmAh, look at all the lonely people
Ah, look at all the lonely people
Eleanor Rigby picks up the rice in the church where a wedding has been
Lives in a dream
Waits at the window, wearing the face that she keeps in a jar by the door
Who is it for?
All the lonely people
Where do they all come from ?
All the lonely people
Where do they all belong ?
Father McKenzie writing the words of a sermon that no one will hear
No one comes near.
Look at him working. Darning his socks in the night when there's nobody there
What does he care?
All the lonely people
Where do they all come from?
All the lonely people
Where do they all belong?
Eleanor Rigby died in the church and was buried along with her name
Nobody came
Father McKenzie wiping the dirt from his hands as he walks from the grave
No one was saved
All the lonely people
Where do they all come from?
All the lonely people
Where do they all belong?
When my wife was growing up, she absolutely hated that Beatles song.
Turner Classic Movies had Zorba the Greek on today. They also had it on a few months ago, and I caught the end of it. That had been the first time I had seen any part of the movie in almost 40 years and yet I vividly remembered that scene where an older woman, never accepted by the village even though she moved in decades ago, is on her death bed, alone, and the locals just come in and start stealing everything that had been hers.
Luckily, we aren't either of those lonely people anymore. And when I say luckily, I mean luckily because so many things could have turned out differently and we'd be those people after all. My wife is currently visiting a friend in Indiana. While I am all by myself this week, that's ok because I know I have friends out there.
