TCM is showing 1948's The Big Clock.

A corrupt publisher tries to frame a career-driven editor for murder.

I came in after it had started and, since George Macready and Charles Laughton were both in it, I couldn't tell who the corrupt publisher was. Charles bashing a woman's head in with a Hugo(1) clarified the situation(2).

----------

(1) All right, it wasn't really a Hugo, but was a rocket-shaped object.

(2) Actually, it did not. George is the corrupt publisher, but Charles did the deed, and George is getting the editor - Ray Milland - framed for it. I think. That's what happens whem I watch a movie filled to the brim with villainy after my spending most of the night up to fix a problem with our computer system.
