defiance and solace
Jan. 18th, 2009 09:10 amWe saw Defiance last night, which starred Daniel Craig and Liev Schreiber as Jewish brothers who find themselves saving their community when Nazis invade Belorussia. We enjoyed the film a lot. More so than critics did, apparently, but then again whose taste should you trust? Them high-falutin's elitists, or someone who loved the movie The Core? Seeing Craig reminded me how disappointed I was with Quantum of Solace, his 2nd James Bond outing, after the sad and romantic Casino Royale. It wound up being one big action setpiece after another, it seems, when it had the kernel of something better and grander, as shown in the scene where "M" reminds him of the world's rapidly depleting resource. The best parts were those with him and Gian Luigi Ferri, which had humanity in them.
