At the beginning of this long weekend, I had made a list of the many things I needed to do for myself, and none of them for my employer. It was fairly lengthy, but I took care of the last item - updating our check book's balance - this morning. I am now bereft of tasks. I guess I'll have to do some reading and writing.

What a horrible situation...

I continue to think that the first episode of ”The Murdoch Mysteries”, set in 1895’s Toronto, was their best, as it featured the new crime of electrocution, and Tesla stepping in to help police detective William Murdoch solve the mystery. Still, I’ve been following the series, thanks to NetFlix. For one thing, I enjoy stories where the principal character’s main asset is what’s between his/her ears. No, I’m not referring to the nose, but to what one knows. And what one is eager to learn. Episodes 5 thru 7, which I just finished watching, show Murdoch and pathologist Dr. Ogden using new techniques of criminology – for example, fingerprinting, tests to make sure that the blood on that gardening instrument is human, rebuilding a long-dead person’s face with clay by observing where muscles attached to the skull. The series doesn’t usually go into the personal lives of the characters, focusing instead on the mystery although we do get glimpses of where they come from and what makes them tick. Maybe later episodes will show more about how Ogden came to her position in a man’s world.
