I recently finished reading the first 8 issues of Miriam Libicki's autobiographical comic-book, or what happens when, in the summer of 2000, a 19-year-old American Jewish girl decides to join the Israeli military. It's not every day that, because I expressed a sentiment not dissimilar to Oliver Wendell Holmes's comment that taxes are the cost one must pay to maintain civilization (or words to that effect), I (and presumably Ollie) find myself called a Marxist by a flat-taxer. And he didn't mean Zeppo, Harpo, Chico or Groucho.

"The Hidden Goddess"

Last year, in August, I mentionned MK Hobson's first novel, "The Native Star". Next week will see the publication of its followup, "The Hidden Goddess". I know what I'll be doing next Tuesday.
