sergebroom: (Twilight Zone)
After spending much of the night up, I have finally realized that decision-makers live in a different reality, one where John Steinbeck never wrote that story about rodents and male humans, one where engineer Murphy never articulated his famous Law. Unlike the Twilight Zone though, that reality doesn't appear to be a dimension of mind.

That being said, I also realized this morning that a thorough teeth-cleaning is a most efficient way to wake up a person who's had only two hours of sleep.
sergebroom: (Doctor Strange)
When we talk about the roots of Urban Fantasy, we usually invoke Buffy and, before that, Charles de Lint's 1984 novel "Moonheart" and Emma Bull's 1987's "War for the Oaks". We tend to forget two movies though, both of them released in 1986 - "Big Trouble in Little China" and "Highlander". And, 23 years before them, there was Doctor Strange, whose lair could be found in Manhattan's Greenwich Village. Still, it's with "Moonheart" and "War for the Oaks" that one big change began - with the woman becoming the driving character.
