at the signpost up ahead

2825 miles later, we're back from Texas. Mind you, this research trip for my wife's latest novel would have been 100 miles shorter if not for the Lone Star's reluctance to post signs that are obvious for visitors. I think there is one day when I didn't take a wrong turn, but so it goes. I was quite surprised at how humid and greener than expected Texas is, aside from the Big Bend area. Our trip took us to Abilene, then to Fredericksburg (I was bummed to realize too late to visit it that Lyndon Johnson's ranch was just south of that town), then to San Antonio where Sue gave a speech to the local chapter of the Romance Writers of America. Next we drove thru Utopia, then to Fort Stockton, and finally thru my first-ever border town, El Paso, before making it home.

By the way, I was amused that, in one hotel, the bed table on the woman's side contained the customary Bible, while the man's bed table contained K-Y's "His and Hers" gel.

How did you know which side was the man's and which side was the woman's?

I asked my wife, and there does appear to be a preference for one side of the bed by each sex. Of course it may be a statistical fluke that has nothing to do with how close to the bathroom that side of the bed is.

I see. I think.

Welcome back!

Speaking of travel, I don't suppose you'll be in San Francisco May 29-June 1? My husband got cheap tickets, so we'll be out there assuming my body is relatively functional and the timing works for school essays/tests.

Alas, no. I will be here in New Mexico, building new stairs in the backyard (http://pics.livejournal.com/serge_lj/pic/0000xd12/g13). Hopefully we will meet in the physical world before Heat Death brings everything to a halt.
