Today, in my mailbox, there was this DVD I'd been looking for, countless moons after countless moons. Only recently did my search bear fruit.

That is going to be epic in its terribleness! Woo hoo!

Actually, it's a fairly decent movie, with a script by Richard Matheson based on two Verne novels about the character of Robur.

Please note that, while Robur uses his futuristic vehicle to wage war against war just like Nemo did, there is one big difference between these two technological brothers: Robur drops pamphlets advising the military to lay down their weapons before bombing them out of existence. Of course, Nemo would have a hard time pamphleteering. Soggy tracts are hard to read.

I have a VHS version, in case you are ever curious enough to borrow it.

You too? One nice thing about the DVD is that, while it's not one of those cleaned-up crisp releases, its picture is in the wide-screen format. Also, I can play it on my laptop. Meanwhile, my old VCR croaked months ago and, while I still have a TV/VCR combo around, one of thse days it too will cease to function.

Thanks! I would also have to borrow a VHS player, so I'll pass for now, but I will keep an eye on the TV listings and record it if it ever comes up. And then I will laugh at it, despite any protestations of its goodness.

Edited to clarify: I love the movies I laugh at. Quatermass & the Pit is one of my all-time favorite films, for example.

Quatermass and The Pit? Yay!
