So far, the return to Reality has been blah. I was just now chastised by the head of our user/tester group for trying to ensure good communication, and she made sure to include my new manager in the email exchange. Yesterday, my very busy manager had to waste time before he could approve my timesheet because, according to its site, I took all of last week off without having anything left in my time-off reserve. Mind you, I still had 136 hours in that reserve before I went way last week. It turns out that my old manager had recorded too low a number of hours that I'm entitled to. From beyond her demotion's grave she still reaches. I am concerned that this is not making me look good to my manager - I really need to talk to my team lead.

Ugh. Work politics are especially deflating for me after I've had a chance to be away somewhere fun, surrounded by interesting and articulate people. I feel for you.

Thanks. Telecommuting when the group is more than 1000 miles away isn't the worst mistake I've made, but it's up there among my finest goofs.

Yuck. I've never used a system where a manager recorded the number of available hours--either it was automatically fed in from the payroll system, or they trusted us.

In my case, that's because I'm the group's only person who must be paid for overtime, and that is another knife stab I can thank my former boss for.
