It’s 2007 and I spent a good part of the morning shoveling a 24-inch layer of snow out of the front yard. That only confirmed what I’ve been thinking for a long time – although I grew up in Quebec City (or maybe because of it), the only white Christmas I like is the one with Danny Kaye and Rosemary Clooney. When we arrived in Albuquerque yesterday evening, the heavy snows had finally ended, but obviously people were still recovering. Interstate 40 was closed somewhere east of the city and so it took us as long to make it thru the last 10 miles as it it for the previous eighty.

Except for that, the drive was uneventful. I felt quite sad during the first part of it, from Concord to Bakersfield, because I remembered how happy I had been two weeks before, driving from Bakersfield to Concord, to the Bay Area, which is where I want to be. That might explain why, when we spent the night in Arizona’s Kingman, I dreamed I was driving our minivan from way in the back, barely able to see the road, and thinking we were going to die. What I’m not sure of is why I then found myself into a dream where I was at an SF convention where they showed clips and preproduction art from a Star Trek movie that, in the dream, had been made at the time of the original series but never released, or why the only character from the old series that I had seen in my dream was Doctor McCoy who, as part of the story, was disguised as an avian humanoid. It felt like it would have been a good movie. That certainly was more pleasant than the dream I had early this morning that I had been called by my office because I am the support person starting today and it took me so long to figure out that I had made the problem up (if not the part about being on call) that I couldn’t go back to sleep.

Next time, Mister Sandman, bring me a dream that involves Claudia Black.

I, for some reason, have dreams involving Judi Dench.

I'm about (well, on Thursday morning)to head off to New Orleans for a conference, and weather.com is promising lots of thunderstorms. Isn't this supposed to be winter?

Judi Densch, eh? I wouldn't mind dreams involving Ellen Burstyn myself.

And yes, it IS winter. Coming back to Albuquerque, I felt like I was in the Canada of my youth. It was cold, there was a lot of snow. And we had no postal service for 4 days in a row.

On the other hand, there are no Tim Horton's.

I should add that here in Atlanta it's 47 at 11 a.m., and should be 60 by mid-afternoon.

Happy New Year

And send me some good dream personnel, please. I'm tired of the ones I've had for the past year or so.

Nah, just bored with 'em. Maybe I should go to more movies.
