wishes that don't compute

Found today on Comcast's site...

Voters rewarded candidates who focused on jobs and restrained government in Tuesday's election.

That sounds like contradictory wishes to me, but what the heck do I know?

Well, they meant people who said they focused on jobs and restrained government. The guys who were elected won't actually be able to do that if they stick to their flimsy plans.

True, but whether the candidates can or intend to do either of these things, I'm not sure how the voters expect the government to do one AND the other.
