I turned 51 in September, which is why Sue has been pestering again and again to get a medical checkup, which I had this week. My doc gave me a clean bill of health. I can't wait for my late-February colonoscopy. At least, that'll give me an excuse to take a day off office work.

I turned 56 in November, and I've been nagged about getting one of those exams for years. I've got to see how much my miserably-expensive and not-so-inclusive health insurance will pay and how much I'll have to (50% of ordinary lab fees, so for a test like that? Yikes).

My own health coverage will cover most of the expense. Which is a relief. It's also a relief that I won't need to give myself an enema the day before. And that, while I'll have to fast, I will be allowed to ingest something other than jell-o.

I turned 50 in August, and go for my first colonoscopy on Tuesday. I am not looking forward to the next couple of days.

I was told that it really isn't going to hurt after the whole thing is over. While it's going on shouldn't be too bad either because, apparently, the drug they give you either knocks you out, or it makes you feel very relaxed and completely messes up your short-term memory and you don't remember a thing of what you did or said or felt during the procedure.

That's what they tell me too.

I think of it as being abducted by aliens and given an anal probe.

I'm turning 31 in a few weeks and have had an annual colonoscopy for about 10 years (I'm damaged goods, evidently). Doped up or not, it aint fun.

As the doc for a copy of the video he takes (mine is willing to burn me a DVD copy for a small fee). Fun viewing for family and friends!

Thanks. I shall -- if I can remember to do so. I thought it was a once-a-decade process. I hope you're in generally good health otherwise.

Same from me, Scorby. And how was your procedure, fledgist?

I survived it. Didn't feel a thing. It isn't the procedure that's so awful as the prep and the aftermath. One learns in high school human biology that water is excreted by the colon. One discovers what that means when one has had a thorough cleaning out.

Now, wasn't that fun? Glad your experience wasn't as bad as you might have anticipated.
