Yesterday morning, my wife's middle sister achieved a state she had long worked for. She's now a mother. Thru adoption, yes, but she is going to be quite a devoted mom, and her hubby quite the devoted dad.

It was a long road for them. There were many disappointments, but eventually the adoption agency found them a good match. Still, there were further delays. The birth was supposed to occur during the Holidays, which is why Sue and I stayed almost two weeks, until someone figured out the mother wouldn't give birth before the middle of January. On Thursday, it became obvious that Nature needed a bit of help so the mother was given injections to induce labor. Almost 24 hours later, nothing was happening so a C-section was performed.

I am now an uncle for the third time (*). We won't see him until we drive to the Bay Area during Easter, but I understand that the little guy is very vigorous and has quite the mop of hair.

----

(*) On Sue's side, but I don't count my side of the family as being of great import in my life.

Congratulations, and the best of luck to her.

Hmm. Your name isn't Napoleon, by any chance?

Nope. I'm not Napoleon Solo. Nor am I Ilia Kuriakin, or Mr.Waverly, or the sidekick of (gods spare me) the girl from U.N.C.L.E.... If I had to be one of them, I'd rather be Ilia. He was always my favorite.

Anyway, thanks for the wishes. We called my sis-in-law at lunch time and got their answering machine. Maybe the hospital is keeping the little guy in for longer than the expected 48 hours. If something were wrong, they'd have called us.

I hope everything goes well.

Shouldn't the female counterpart of the man from U.N.C.L.E. be the woman from A.U.N.T.?

OK, I'll bite. What does 'A.U.N.T.' stand for? (I'm sure the answer will cause much groaning and why-didn't-I-think-of-it's.)

As for my nephew, he's at my sis-in-law. He's doing fine.

It would have to be Alternative United Nations Team, if anything.

It was a joke of mine, when I was a boy.

Glad to hear your nephew's doing well.

What did K.A.O.S. stand for already?

I never watched 'Get Smart', alas.

'Alas' might be too strong a word to use re that show. I seldom watched it too myself, but enough to known most of its gags.

Fair enough. Of course, there was also 'I Spy' which helped make Bill Cosby famous....
