My sister-in-law sent me photos of my nephew yesterday. He's so tiny. Of course, most babies are, but it's my understanding that he is a bit smaller than average. I don't know if that's a sign that he'll never be as tall as the person who will be his favorite uncle (1), but considering that his African birthmother is short and so is his African-American birthfather, he'll fit right in with the rest of the family, where awesome verticality is not a genetic trait.

And what is his name? Theo, short for 'Theodore'. They chose that name because it means 'gift from the gods', and that is exactly how his parents will treat him. When they told me what his name would be, I pointed out that Theo was also the name of Vincent van Gogh's supportive older brother and they liked that. A lot.

I can't wait to tell my sis-in-law and her hubby what my internet buddette abi pointed out to me, that their son has the same birthday as Rush Limbaugh. I am sure that they will show the proper appreciation for that bit of knowledge, abi. Heheheh... I think they'll be much more impressed by the fact that yours truly was born on the same day (2) as Cardinal Richelieu.

--------------

(1) Yes, that'd be me.

(2) In a different year though.

I think he'll overcome sharing a birthday with Rush Limbaugh. Cardinal Richelieu, now, is another matter. A very good omen that.

(I'm trying to figure out what sharing a birthday with Lyndon Johnson, Mother Theresa, C.S. Forester, and Theodore Dreiser means).

Theodore Dreiser... Dr. Seuss, right?

Nope, that was Theodore Geisel (after whom the library at the University of California, San Diego is named). Dreiser was an early twentieth-century novelist.

Oops. All those Theo's... It's hard to keep track.

My hope is that, by the time Theo is old enough to understand, Monsieur Limbaugh will have been forgotten. As for my own birthday, it is also Arthur Freed's, who was in charge of MGM's musicals, in the glory days.

It'd ne nice as that'd mean dancing with Cyd Charisse in a dream sequence. Sigh. By the way, did you know that Cyd is the aunt of Nana Visitor, aka Kira on Deep Space Nine?

No, I didn't know that.

Lucky me, I get Susan B Anthony and Galileo. I think that makes me a rebel, generally right, but not always winning in my lifetime.

(This is abi, by the way, in my usual Internet identity)

Ah hah!!! I had been thinking of asking when your birthday is, and you just delivered that information to me. Of course, being a gentleman, I wouldn't dare ask a lady the specific year of her birth. Heheheh...

I was born in the year of the dog.
I am, by Biblical terms, in the second half of my life.
I am a square this month, but by Easter I will be in prime condition.

You were born in 1970.
Duly noted.

Correct.

(Had you asked, I would have told you.)

But, like I said earlier, a gentleman doesn't ask a lady such questions.

I was rather amused to find that Theo's pediatrician is one Doctor Bean. I'm not sure whether I should visualize him as Rowan Atkinson, or as Sean Bean...
